The Plumtree High School Logo represents the long history of the school and a prosperous future for students studying at the institution. Plumtree High School is private boarding school with a long history of producing some of the best students in Zimbabwe in the sports and education section. Plumtree School is one of the first schools in Zimbabwe dating back to 1897 when high school education was known by few.

The elite school is located at the heart of Plumtree town which was primarily built to accommodate workers who worked at Railway station connected from Botswana to the city of Bulawayo which is also located in Matebeleland (Railway known as the Cape to Cairo railway which connected the whole continent). The school was then built to cater for the children of the workers who worked on the railways of the Cape to Cairo railway.

Logo Overview

The tree on the logo represents the famous Plum tree which the town was named after during the 1800 then the train on the logo represents the railway that passess through the town from the country of Botswana to the second capital of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo. The green colour on the logo represent the rich vegetation of the town.

Plumtree High School History

The school was founded by the Railway missionary who sought to provide their children with education back in 1897. It is said that the first class was attended on the premises of family of the Smiths then the class was later shifted to the dining room of Plumtree Hotel when the number of students increased. In 1902 the school moved to where its located today occupying a space that would be large enough for sports grounds, classrooms and all the other buildings found today.

During this time till the recent years Plumtree School was a private boys High School with students from all over the country. According to wikipedia the father of Plumtree School, Robert Hammond took over from reigns of the family as he was appointed the first Headmaster of Plumtree High School. During his 30 year tenure Mr Hammond created a school that would roar with pure excellence and created a name for the school that would be known by the whole of Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.

After the departure of Mr. Hammond as the school’s headmaster the school continued to flourish with replacements of the great maTambo. In late 2015 the school was granted the right to enroll girls and the following year the school officially became a Boys and Girls High School. Plumtree School has produced elite students like the famous Ralph Mupita (MTN Group CEO), Ian Butchart (Zimbabwean Cricket Team) and a whole lot more.
